As part of your hydraulic system maintenance, inspections play an important role. If you have instruments fitted and can monitor your system remotely then that is a good start. However there is more benefit from walking by the hydraulic system and looking. Are there small leaks, what is the noise, has it changed? You may not be able to see small leaks remotely or hear the noise changes.
If you have an inspection procedure you will become familiar with your hydraulic system, which results in detection of small changes and can result in catching problems earlier. You will also have records of pressure and temperatures, which can be trended to monitor the system health. Couple this with oil cleanliness reports, you can then get a good picture of the health of your hydraulic system.
