Many systems have hydraulic accumulators fitted and not many people realise that they are classified as gas filled pressure vessels and must comply with the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000. Hydraulic accumulators with a pressure x volume < 250 bar litres need a maintenance and inspection schedule. All other hydraulic accumulators require a Written Scheme of Examination.
A Written Scheme of Examination is a document that stays with the hydraulic accumulator until it is scrapped. The document details the system that the accumulator is fitted and the details of the accumulator, including the system pressure limits. A key part of the document is the safety system protecting the hydraulic accumulator. For example if it is a pressure relief valve then the details of the valve and its pressure setting is required. The period between inspection and testing, the type is detailed in the Written Scheme. It is down to the assessor, who compiles the document, as to the type and frequency of inspection and tests.
The person compiling the Written Scheme needs to be classified as competent, which can be achieved through education and experience.
MGR Fluid Engineering are classified as a competent company so we can offer the service to customers that have hydraulic accumulators that fall under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations. We are independent and we will give you an honest assessment of you hydraulic accumulator system. accumulators
